Piers Morgan has faced fierce criticism after he and his sons joined Arsenal players on the pitch to celebrate the club's first Premier League title in 22 years. The television personality, along with his sons Spencer, Stanley, and Albert, was granted VIP access to the celebrations at Selhurst Park following Arsenal's triumph.
Fans Outraged by Pitch Invasion
Many supporters were left stunned as Morgan and his family paraded with the players moments after the trophy was lifted. Social media erupted with comparisons to Turkish chef Nusret Gökçe, known as Salt Bae, who infamously gatecrashed Argentina's 2022 World Cup final victory. One fan wrote: "He's the Arsenal equivalent of Salt Bae trying to make it all about him."
Criticism of Morgan's Presence
Critics argued that the celebration should have been reserved for players and their families, not celebrities. Morgan's Instagram account was flooded with complaints. One user fumed: "Why the f…. is this nutcase with the players with a medal?" Another pointed out that Morgan had previously called for manager Mikel Arteta to be sacked, calling his presence "absolutely shameless."
Morgan posed with a medal around his neck, which further angered fans. Others questioned: "Why are you on the pitch? Insufferable." The comparison to Salt Bae was echoed by multiple commenters, referencing the chef's controversial appearance at the World Cup final.
Other Celebrities Join In
Morgan wasn't the only celebrity celebrating with Arsenal. EastEnders star Jake Wood, who plays Max Branning, was also seen with the team. Line of Duty actor Adrian Dunbar was spotted in the stands with Morgan just before the final whistle.
Salt Bae's Previous Controversy
Salt Bae had vowed never to invade a football pitch again after facing widespread condemnation for his actions at the 2022 World Cup final in Qatar. He was seen holding the iconic trophy and awkwardly interacting with players, including Lionel Messi, during Argentina's celebrations.
Arteta Unbothered by Guests
Despite the backlash, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta was unfazed by the extra guests. He told Sky Sports: "That was beautiful. Look at the joy of all of the people, they have been waiting for this for so long. We have had difficult moments along the way but it is all worth it when you see that kind of reaction." He added: "Now it is time to enjoy and take the manager hat off."
Arteta praised the club's ownership and the team's commitment, saying: "They have incredible values and know the sport better than any of us. They have committed to the project that we have delivered."
