Gyles Brandreth has revealed that he once had a physical altercation with Sir Rod Stewart during a football match. The 76-year-old broadcaster shared the anecdote on This Morning, recalling that the rock star tackled him, causing him to fall over.
Brandreth, speaking to hosts Sian Welby, Vanessa Feltz, and Craig Doyle, described Stewart as a "global superstar" but noted that he is "a real bloke" on the football pitch. Despite the clash, Brandreth remains a fan of both Stewart and his wife, Penny Lancaster.
The revelation comes after Sir Rod, 79, took to Instagram to deny rumours of a rift with Lancaster over their living arrangements. In a statement to his 1.4 million followers, he insisted there is "no disharmony" in their marriage and that they are happily splitting their time between the UK and properties abroad.
Stewart explained that while they initially planned to sell their Los Angeles home, a summer spent there during his Vegas residency made them realise it was worth keeping. He emphasised that he and Lancaster are "more in love" after 27 years together.
