Paul Dalglish: 'My Dad Is My Hero' as Sir Kenny Battles Cancer

Paul Dalglish has paid an emotional tribute to his father, Sir Kenny Dalglish, after the Liverpool legend confirmed he is undergoing treatment for cancer. The 75-year-old inadvertently revealed his diagnosis in a social media post on Tuesday before issuing a formal statement.

In his statement, Sir Kenny said: 'As my inadvertent social media post has indicated, I am currently undergoing treatment for cancer. Unlike my mobile phone use, the treatment is going well.' He added that he had not intended to make the matter public and requested privacy for his family.

Paul Dalglish responded on social media, writing: 'My Dad is my hero, my best mate, & the strongest man I know. If there's one thing I've learned from him, it's how to face challenges with courage, humour, & dignity. The treatment is going well & he'll handle this the same way he's handled everything else in life. Love you, Dad.'

Dalglish is widely regarded as Liverpool's greatest player, winning eight league titles and three European Cups during his time at the club. Tributes have poured in from former players and clubs, including Steven Gerrard, Alan Shearer, Robbie Fowler, Jamie Carragher, and Newcastle United.

Liverpool FC released a statement expressing their support and echoing Dalglish's request for privacy. The club said: 'The support, best wishes and love of everyone at Liverpool FC are, and will be, with Sir Kenny and his family.'
