Brisbane surgeon Vahid Reza Adib, partner of former Queensland premier Annastacia Palaszczuk, has been charged with rape, sexual assault and deprivation of liberty. Adib, a bariatric surgeon at the Wesley Hospital, voluntarily attended Southport police station on Friday.
Police allege he sexually assaulted a woman in her 30s at a residence on 30 March. He faces three counts of rape, two of deprivation of liberty and one of sexual assault. Adib was granted police bail and will appear at Southport Magistrates Court on 14 May.
His lawyer, Dan Rogers, said Adib would vigorously defend the charges and was primarily concerned about his family and patients. Palaszczuk, who was on a promotional tour for her memoir, said she was unaware of the investigation.
