Ousted Republican Warns Trump Alienated Voters Before Midterms

Thomas Massie, a Republican congressman from Kentucky, was defeated in a primary election by a challenger endorsed by former President Donald Trump. In a recent interview, Massie warned that Trump has 'alienated' many voters who previously supported him, potentially harming the party's prospects in the upcoming midterm elections.

Massie's Warning

Massie described a growing phenomenon he calls 'Trump disappointment syndrome,' where voters who once backed Trump are now disillusioned. He pointed to several key groups, including fiscal conservatives, anti-war advocates, and those pushing for government transparency, who have been alienated by the administration's actions. Massie expressed concern that this disenfranchisement could cost the Republican party dearly in November.

Primary Defeat

Massie lost to Ed Gallrein in what was reported as the most expensive US congressional primary election in history. Trump actively campaigned against Massie, calling him a 'moron' and 'loser,' and celebrating his defeat. Massie, who will serve out the remainder of his term, said he has no regrets about his actions that angered Trump, including voting against military action against Iran and supporting the release of the Jeffrey Epstein files.

Bipartisan Efforts

Massie highlighted his work with Democrat Ro Khanna on a bill to release the Epstein files, calling it the only bill in a decade not written by lobbyists. He believes this effort made him a target of the political establishment. Despite his defeat, Massie vowed to continue advocating for his principles, stating, 'It was completely worth it.'
