Oklahoma Lake Party Shooting: 1 Dead, 22 Injured, Arrest Made

Police in Edmond, Oklahoma, announced on Wednesday the arrest of an 18-year-old man in connection with a mass shooting that occurred during a weekend party beside Arcadia Lake, leaving one woman dead and 22 others injured.

Arrest and Charges

Edmond Police Chief J.D. Younger identified the suspect as Jaylan A. Davis, an Oklahoma City resident, who was arrested earlier in the day on a charge of assault with a deadly weapon. The charge is being upgraded to felony murder following the death of 18-year-old Avianna Smith-Gray, who succumbed to her gunshot wounds. Davis is being held in the Edmond jail on a $1 million bond.

Details of the Shooting

The shooting erupted on Sunday night after an argument between two women escalated into a confrontation involving rival gang members. The party, promoted on social media, drew a large crowd of mostly young adults from the Oklahoma City area. Police reported that over 80 rounds were fired, with multiple individuals discharging weapons. Among the 23 victims, six are juveniles, some as young as 15 years old.

Ongoing Investigation

Chief Younger stated that Davis turned himself in after an arrest warrant was issued. He emphasized the importance of seeking justice for all victims, including the deceased and the injured, and urged against demonizing any parties involved. Police believe at least one more suspect remains at large. The shooting occurred as officers were responding to a noise complaint, and it was noted that organizers had not secured the necessary reservations for the event.
