California Governor Gavin Newsom has criticised Donald Trump’s “Presidential Walk of Fame” as “nonsense,” in his latest exchange with the president. Trump recently added plaques to his row of portraits at his Mar-a-Lago club, many of which attack his opponents as divisive figures.
Newsom responded on social media by sharing a parody version of the walk, noting that while Trump focused on the plaques, costs for everyday Americans were rising. “Inflation is up. Unemployment is up. Grocery prices are up. Electricity costs are up,” he wrote, before dismissing Trump’s effort.
Later, Newsom posted his own walk featuring high-definition images of Trump aides from a Vanity Fair interview, including Karoline Leavitt, Stephen Miller, Marco Rubio, and J.D. Vance. The images drew online comments describing them as “diabolical” and “crazy.”
Trump’s plaques describe Barack Obama as “one of the most divisive political figures,” Joe Biden as the “worst President in American History,” and claim he won the “most corrupt Election ever seen.” He was more complimentary towards Ronald Reagan, stating the late president was a fan of his.
Recent polls indicate public dissatisfaction with Trump’s economic performance. An NPR/PBS News/Marist poll found 57% of Americans unhappy with his handling of the economy, while a Politico survey showed over half believe costs for groceries, utilities, and housing are too high. Unemployment has also risen to 4.4%, according to Bureau of Labor Statistics data.
