Josh Widdicombe has spoken out about speculation linking him to the hosting role on Strictly Come Dancing. The Last Leg presenter, 43, is reportedly a frontrunner to replace Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman, who announced their exit last year. Emma Willis is also tipped to take on one of the presenting positions.
Appearing on Tuesday's Good Morning Britain, Widdicombe was pressed by hosts Susanna Reid and Ed Balls about the rumours. He initially remained evasive, saying: 'Do not believe what you read in the papers.' However, when asked directly if he would love to do it, he confessed: 'I would love to do it, of course. I would love to do it but I think we'd all love to do it.'
Head Judge Shirley Ballas recently dismissed the speculation, telling the Mirror: 'I have no comment... Never heard of him, who is he?' She added: 'Don't believe everything you read. It's out next week, the end of this week, the beginning of next!'
A source told The Sun that producers wanted a stand-up comedian to match Claudia Winkleman's quick wit, and that Widdicombe's 'awkward and funny' character would balance Emma Willis's 'glamorous, smooth, straight-laced' style. The BBC has not yet responded to the speculation.
