Washington Nationals Ban Fan Over White Nationalist Banner

The Washington Nationals have identified and banned at least one spectator after a banner promoting a white nationalist website was displayed during Sunday's game against the Baltimore Orioles. The banner, which read 'SAVE AMERICA' and 'DEPORT 100+ MILLION', was quickly removed by security.

A team spokesperson confirmed the Nationals are working with District of Columbia police on an investigation. The banner was unfurled in the upper deck during the 'Salute to Service' segment honouring veterans. An usher attempted to confiscate it, but the three individuals holding it resisted and fled.

In a statement, the team said: 'The Washington Nationals vehemently condemn discriminatory and hateful rhetoric, and we strive to make our home field a safe space for our fans.' The team's policy generally restricts banners to baseball-related or family-friendly messages.

Jake Lang, a participant in the 6 January Capitol riot and conservative influencer, claimed responsibility for the banner on social media. It remains unclear how the banner bypassed security, as magnetometers detect weapons but not nylon signs.
