Dustin Poirier has cast doubt on Max Holloway's durability ahead of his highly anticipated rematch with Conor McGregor at UFC 329 on July 11. The bout, set for welterweight, marks McGregor's return after a three-year absence following a broken leg suffered in his 2021 defeat to Poirier.
Poirier, who has fought Holloway three times, noted that the Hawaiian has been knocked down in his last three fights—more than in his entire career prior. “If Max’s chin is finally catching up to the style of fighting he does, Conor could put him down,” Poirier said on Paramount's Deep Waters show.
Despite the concerns, Poirier warned that Holloway has developed significant power since moving up to lightweight, evidenced by his convincing win over Poirier last year. “At 170, he’s got to have even more power, because Max can punch now,” Poirier added.
McGregor, who last fought at welterweight in 2020, will be looking to end a two-fight losing streak. The Irishman previously defeated Holloway by decision in 2013, but the former featherweight champion has since become a UFC legend with 32 fights.
