A 26-year-old man has died in hospital three days after a group of pedestrians were struck by a car in Nottinghamshire, prompting a murder investigation.
Victim Identified as Local Footballer
Tyler Fairman, a footballer with non-league side Woodthorpe Park Rangers, was pronounced dead on Tuesday, police confirmed. He was among several pedestrians injured when a red Vauxhall Astra mounted a kerb and hit a group in Arnold, near Nottingham, in the early hours of Saturday.
In a statement issued on Wednesday, Nottinghamshire Police said Mr Fairman was taken immediately to hospital but died "despite the best efforts of medical professionals."
Suspect Charged
Duane Anthony, 40, was arrested on Saturday evening and appeared in court on Monday charged with five counts of attempted murder. He was also charged with aggravated vehicle taking, driving while disqualified, and driving without valid insurance. He has been remanded into custody to reappear at Nottingham Crown Court on June 8.
Detective Chief Inspector Ruby Burrow, leading the investigation, said: "As we release the sad news of Tyler's death, our first thoughts go to his family and loved ones at this difficult time. Both they and the other people injured or affected by this collision continue to be supported by specially trained police officers."
Appeal for Calm
Burrow added: "We can also confirm today that this is now a murder investigation. As such, criminal proceedings are active, so anything relating to this incident should be shared with the police, not online, as doing so could potentially impede the pursuit of justice."
Police are aware of videos of the incident circulating on social media and have asked the public to remove them out of respect for the family.
Woodthorpe Park Rangers previously stated that three members of their team, including the manager, were struck by a car following an end-of-season awards night. In a tribute on X, the club posted: "Rest in peace TY. Forever our number 6."
