A contestant on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? has become the first person in six years to claim the £1million jackpot, leaving viewers stunned after he used two lifelines early in the game.
Roman Dubowski, a retired IT analyst from Stockport, faced a nerve-shredding series of questions on Sunday evening's episode, hosted by Jeremy Clarkson. Despite early doubts from viewers after he burned through his lifelines, Roman navigated his way to the final question.
The winning question was: 'Used since 1876, which trademarked logo is described in the James Joyce novel Ulysses and depicted in works by Manet and Picasso?' After using his 50-50 lifeline, Roman correctly answered 'Bass Ale', securing the top prize.
Jeremy Clarkson congratulated him, saying: 'That's fantastic! It happened so quickly, I don't even know what to say, and you did it without my help!' Roman responded: 'It doesn't feel real at the moment. It hasn't quite sunk in.'
Social media users were quick to comment on Roman's early lifeline use, particularly when he did not know that egg is a key ingredient in mayonnaise. One viewer tweeted: 'There was me mugging him off because he didn't know the mayonnaise question.' Another added: 'Didn't know what was in Mayonnaise and leaves with £1M fairs.'
The victory marks the seventh time the million-pound jackpot has been won on the UK version of the show, and the first in six years.
