Victoria Beckham and her fellow Spice Girls have led birthday tributes for bandmate Melanie Brown, known as Mel B or Scary Spice, as she turned 51 on Friday. The chart-topping girl group flooded the singer with messages of goodwill on social media.
Lady Beckham, aka Posh Spice, posted a throwback photo of herself embracing Brown on Instagram, writing: “Happy birthday @OfficialMelB! Kisses xxx.” Geri Halliwell-Horner (Ginger Spice) shared a black-and-white image of the pair smiling alongside a lion cub, captioned: “Happy birthday Melanie! Wishing you all the birthday love.”
Melanie Chisholm (Mel C or Sporty Spice) posted a video compilation of moments with Brown set to their hit Spice Up Your Life, joking: “Birthday girl @OfficialMelB, my northern nutter.” She added: “Love these clips, us at our happiest on stage together… Have the best Birthday! Love you to pieces.” Emma Bunton (Baby Spice) shared a recent laughing photo with Brown, captioning it: “Happy birthday @OfficialMelB! Love you to bits. Thank you for always making me laugh out loud!”
The Spice Girls’ official Instagram page also posted a video tribute of archive clips featuring Brown in her signature leopard print, with the message: “Happy birthday to our Spice Sister @OfficialMelB. Lots of love from all of us!”
Brown’s wife, hair stylist Rory McPhee, whom she married last year, shared a loved-up photo and wrote: “Happy birthday my love. Here’s to another year with you, the love of my life and now wife.” Magic radio host Gaby Roslin also sent wishes with a clip of Brown on her show.
Brown rose to fame with the Spice Girls after their debut single Wannabe in 1996, followed by hits like Stop, 2 Become 1, and Viva Forever. The group reunited in 2012 for the London Olympics closing ceremony and again in 2019 for their Spice World tour, sparking ongoing speculation about future performances.
