Megan McKenna has faced a wave of online criticism after sharing a video of her 19-month-old son Landon enjoying his first McDonald's meal. The former TOWIE star and singer, 33, posted the clip on Instagram earlier this week, showing the toddler, whom she shares with husband Oliver Burke, tucking into a Happy Meal. Despite being known for her home cooking and gluten-free recipes, Megan was accused by some followers of 'poisoning' her child with 'chemicals'.
Supporters Defend Megan
Many of Megan's 3 million followers rushed to her defence, praising her for 'keeping it real' and noting that Landon is predominantly fed homemade, healthy meals. One wrote: 'Jesus the hate over a happy meal... I better not tell people my kids probably had their first happy meal before they had teeth.' Another said: 'Anyone who criticises this when bubba has so many homecooked and healthy meals are out of touch. It's fun as a treat.'
Critics Slam the Star
However, less kind comments flooded the post, with some claiming the fast food contained 'pure poison' and 'chemicals'. One user wrote: 'There is no potato in those fries all chemicals… U woke lefties love to support eating human flesh!... yummy human meat toxic Chemicals... yes it's pure poison!' Another added: 'Poor kids... it's full of poison! Those with brain already know that... 24 ingredients in McD nuggets and a parent rejoices in given it.'
Megan's Coeliac Disease Journey
Megan frequently discusses food and health due to her coeliac disease diagnosis. She was extremely ill in her younger years and tested for various conditions before discovering she had coeliac disease and a severe wheat allergy. Speaking to the BBC, she said: 'It wasn't really known back then to have dietary problems. If you couldn't eat something, people would look at you like you were an alien... The gluten-free things back in the day were awful. Like cardboard. So my mum had to learn how to cook for me, and that's where my love of cooking came from.'
She added: 'I cook everything gluten-free at home. Oliver isn't gluten-free, but he doesn't even notice the difference. That's the point. It's just good food.'
Family Expansion Hopes
Last month, Megan revealed she hopes to expand her family with husband Oliver, and she is convinced she will have another boy. She shared that she feels destined to be a 'boy mum' and joked that 'football has already become her life' since Landon started playing with a ball. Megan currently divides her time between London and Berlin after Oliver signed with German club Union Berlin in 2025.
Speaking at the Ideal Home Show, she said: 'I don't know what it is, but when I do have another baby, I feel like I'm going to have another boy. I think I'm a boy mum, and I love that. I feel like I'm going to be at the football every weekend, freezing. Landon just loves playing with the ball, and obviously his dad loves football, so this is my life now.'
