Derek McInnes is reportedly laughing at Celtic's transfer woes, with one Hotline caller branding the club's failure to sign Kelchi Iheanacho as 'beyond criminal'. Meanwhile, some fans are suggesting Steve Clarke could be an ideal fit for the Celtic job after his emotional sendoff as Scotland boss.
Celtic Transfer 'Criminality'
Denis Bruce from Bishopbriggs said: 'The writing is on the wall for Celtic, if the club continues to dice with death on its sluggardly trail of failure to recruit fresh top talent. The loss of the talented Kelchi Iheanacho is beyond criminal. Derek McInnes will be gloating and rubbing his hands with glee as the Ibrox board brings in the talent he needs to regain the league title. And no one will be able to wipe the smile off his face if O'Neill jumps ship in disgust.'
Steve Clarke for Celtic?
Alan Flett commented: 'Scotland playing tournament football is the same as Celtic playing in the Champions League. They're just happy to be there and they never get out of the group stage. I'm sure that many Rangers fans would agree that Steve Clarke would be an ideal fit for the Celtic job.'
Fans Thank Clarke for World Cup Memories
Lewis Fotheringham from Mount Ellen expressed gratitude: 'Two words I want to say to Steve Clarke if he is reading his Daily Record. Thank you. Thank you for giving me the best summer as a Scottish person since Andy Murray won Wimbledon in 2013 because I have been proud to follow the team. Okay, this tournament didn't go as planned but I wasn't born until 1999, so it has taken me 27 years to see us at a World Cup and it has been emotional. In my local chanting Flower of Scotland will live with me for a long time.'
Criticism of Scotland's Performance
James Thompson from Glasgow said: 'These Scottish players also have lot to answer for, not just Clarke. Scottish teams' players are poor, always have been. Just look at Cape Verde and South Africa and how far they have improved yet Scotland were embarrassing. One own goal, celebrated as if they won the World Cup. Get Doncaster and Co sacked!'
Boyd's Defence Sparks Backlash
Kris Boyd branded some criticism of Clarke as 'disgusting', but John Scott from Grassmoor hit back: 'We all get that Kris Boyd is fighting his old gaffer's corner but some of his remarks are outrageous. It sums up our nations' mentality when Boyd makes remarks such as 'yes they spent a lot of money but thanks to Steve Clarke they had a great party'. They could have went to Ayia Napa and spent a great deal less. No mention whatsoever of our squad yet again not fulfilling their potential. On go Cape Verde to face Argentina but Boyd thinks we should be grateful just getting there. What a damning indictment of where we are as a nation and he should hang his head in shame for his remarks. It clearly shows the attitude of our players and it's little wonder we flatter to deceive on the World stage.'
Greatest Manager Yet to Come
Peter Cooperwhite said: 'Myself and everyone knows the greatest manager ever will be the person who takes us out of the group stages. We know Jock and Walter did a very good job, no doubt. But the manager and players have to have a mindset to achieve it. Look at the teams who got through on just four points, they had a go with nothing to lose, so we need to adapt that attitude.'
Unconventional Replacements for Clarke
Stephen Johnstone from Ardentinny offered some off-the-wall suggestions: 'Scotland's ex-manager Steve Clarke once was a national treasure but is now buried treasure and the Hampden hierarchy are now hoping to dig up another treasure. And the hidden one for me is controversial Big Duncan Ferguson or Neil Lennon.'
