The US Department of Justice has released the transcript and audio recording of an interview with convicted sex trafficker Ghislaine Maxwell, in which she stated she never saw Donald Trump in any inappropriate setting. The release, announced by Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche on X, includes materials from a two-day interview conducted on 24 and 25 July.
In the transcript, Maxwell, 63, who was sentenced to 20 years in prison in 2022 for helping Jeffrey Epstein sexually abuse teenage girls, repeatedly praised Trump. “I actually never saw the president in any type of massage setting… The president was never inappropriate with anybody,” she said. She also denied knowledge of any ‘client list’ belonging to Epstein.
Maxwell detailed the social relationship between Trump and Epstein, describing them as “friendly” but not close friends. She said she never saw Trump at Epstein’s house. The interview was conducted with limited immunity, meaning Maxwell was not promised anything in exchange for her testimony.
The interview also covered Epstein’s relationship with former President Bill Clinton. Maxwell said Clinton “liked me, and we got along terribly well” but never saw similar warmth between Clinton and Epstein. She also said she did not remember Trump being in Epstein’s 50th birthday book, despite a Wall Street Journal report in July suggesting otherwise.
After the interview, Maxwell was moved from a low-security federal prison in Florida to a minimum-security prison camp in Texas. The reason for the move has not been explained, sparking speculation about a possible deal. Legal experts noted the transcript release helps Trump dismiss concerns over his ties to Epstein.
