Republican Congressman Thomas Massie has ignited controversy after sharing unfounded conspiracy theories regarding the victims of Jeffrey Epstein, the disgraced financier and convicted sex offender.
Massie, a Kentucky representative, posted on social media suggesting that some individuals listed in recently released Epstein documents were not actual victims but rather part of a broader conspiracy. His remarks have been met with fierce criticism from survivors' advocates and political opponents.
Survivors Condemn Massie's Remarks
Advocates for Epstein's victims swiftly condemned Massie's comments, labelling them as dangerous and dismissive of survivors' experiences. "This kind of rhetoric only serves to retraumatise those who have suffered," said a spokesperson for a survivor advocacy group.
Political Fallout
Massie's statements have also drawn sharp rebukes from fellow lawmakers. "To cast doubt on the credibility of victims is reprehensible," said one Democratic congressman. Meanwhile, some within Massie's own party have distanced themselves from his remarks.
The controversy comes as the public continues to scrutinise newly unsealed court documents related to Epstein's network of powerful associates.
