US President Donald Trump's niece, Mary Trump, has filed a lawsuit accusing him and two family members of fraud and conspiracy. The legal action, lodged in a New York court, alleges that Mr Trump, his sister Maryanne Trump Barry, and his late brother Robert Trump cheated her out of an inheritance.
Mary Trump claims she is owed millions of dollars that she lost due to a scheme designed to siphon funds from her interests. The lawsuit states that after the death of her father, Fred Trump Jr, in 1981, she inherited valuable minority interests in the family business, and that the defendants committed to act as fiduciaries but instead engaged in fraudulent misrepresentation and concealment.
The court document details eight counts, including civil conspiracy. It alleges that the Trumps 'lied' and 'carried out a complex scheme to siphon funds away from her interests, conceal their grift, and deceive her about the true value of what she had inherited'.
Mary Trump, a psychologist and author, released a tell-all memoir in July titled 'Too Much and Never Enough: How My Family Created the World's Most Dangerous Man', which describes the president as a 'narcissist'. The White House has rejected the book's claims, and the Trump family unsuccessfully tried to block its publication.
Neither President Trump nor his siblings have publicly commented on the lawsuit.
