A 39-year-old man has been charged after allegedly threatening the Duke of York near his home on the Sandringham Estate. The incident occurred in Wolferton, close to Marsh Farm, while the duke was walking his dogs on Wednesday evening.
Alex Jenkinson, of Stowmarket, Suffolk, faces two counts of using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour to harass someone or cause alarm or distress. He has also been charged with failing to provide a specimen of blood in custody.
Norfolk police responded to a report of a man behaving in an intimidating manner in the village. Officers arrested Jenkinson on suspicion of a public order offence and possession of an offensive weapon. He was taken to King's Lynn police investigation centre for questioning and remains in custody, due to appear at Norwich Magistrates' Court on Friday.
During the incident, Mountbatten-Windsor, accompanied by a private security detail, reportedly rushed to his car and drove away as the suspect allegedly tried to sprint after him. The confrontation occurred on public land near the Sandringham Royal Parkland and Marsh Farm, where the duke moved after leaving Royal Lodge in Windsor last year.
Buckingham Palace declined to comment, and the duke's representatives have not responded to requests for comment. The duke is provided with an annual stipend by King Charles, which includes an allowance for private security costs.
Mountbatten-Windsor was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office after allegations he shared sensitive information with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He has been released under investigation and denies any wrongdoing.
