Married At First Sight USA producers were forced to apologise to one groom after their unexpected reaction during a dinner conversation. The American edition of the popular reality show is currently airing on E4, with fresh episodes broadcast on weekdays at 8pm. So far, five couples have pledged themselves to complete strangers as they set off on their honeymoons.
While some relationships are blossoming, others are proving more challenging. Drama unfolded in tonight's episode (May 22) when producers had to issue an apology to one Married At First Sight USA groom.
Belynda and Chad were enjoying quality time together, discussing what lies ahead for their future. Belynda revealed her vision of romance involved "kissing, cuddling and showing affection". In a conversation with producers about his relationship, Chad acknowledged: "We're learning about each other in actual ways, she's very easy going, I can see a long future with Belynda."
Opening up about her emotions, Belynda told Chad: "I like who you are I like how you're giving, you're a family person. I can see this going further, possibly falling in love with you at some point. Little by little we're getting there." Chad responded: "I like the way you balance me and I like the way you make me feel special. I do believe that you've been.... erm...."
As he fumbled for words, producers intervened to ask: "How does Belynda make you feel special?" But Chad wasn't pleased with the interruption, adding: "I'm getting there." Forced to say they were sorry, a frustrated Chad then continued: "You're killing me.... We're trying to talk and trying to share. Just let us talk and share." A producer responded: "I apologise." However, Chad had reached his limit and walked away from the table with Belynda.
That evening, Belynda questioned Chad's behaviour, saying: "For me, it's about respect." She added: "It's how you treat everyone." Acknowledging his "frustration", Belynda continued: "I guess we can agree to disagree. I don't want to tell you how to react to things I just want you to think of me before you react to things." Chad responded: "This is difficult for me but you're right I take accountability for what I did." Belynda became emotional, explaining to her husband that while she wasn't taking sides against him, she found it hard to move past an apology immediately.
Social media users were quick to react, with one posting on X: "That attitude did not go down well with Belinda." Another commented: "Chad is angryyyy." Yet on Reddit, where viewers who'd already watched the series discussed the incident, opinions were split. One user defended: "Chad was not out of line. He was having a conversation and the producer interrupted him to try and to direct him in his own conversation (which we are supposed to believe is organic). He wasn't rude. He removed himself from the situation when he became frustrated which is the right thing to do. Belynda should have supported him instead of chastising him." A further viewer wrote: "He was blanking on telling her why he liked her and the producers attempted to give him a carrier question to assist in that. Nothing wrong with it."
Married At First Sight USA airs weekdays on E4 at 8pm.
