A former Love Island contestant has been re-arrested by the Metropolitan Police on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The man, in his 20s, was taken into custody at his home on Monday, April 27, and has been bailed pending further enquiries.
He was originally arrested in November last year at Gatwick Airport on suspicion of multiple offences, including sexual assault, stalking, criminal damage, and assault. The alleged offences also include coercive and controlling behaviour and threats to share intimate images.
A police spokesperson said: 'A man in his 20s has been arrested on suspicion of perverting the course of justice. The arrest relates to an ongoing investigation into allegations of sexual assault, stalking, criminal damage and assault.' The re-arrest is believed to be linked to an attempt to contact an alleged victim.
The man is not associated with the current series of the ITV2 dating programme. A source told The Sun: 'This second arrest is a real shock – and potentially very bad news for the ex-contestant.'
The Love Island show has faced scrutiny following the deaths of former contestants Sophie Gradon, Mike Thalassitis, and host Caroline Flack. ITV has since introduced enhanced duty of care measures for participants.
