A lip reader has disclosed Princess Kate's four-word remark to Prince William following a tense interaction with Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor at the Duchess of Kent's funeral on September 16. The exchange occurred as senior royals departed the service while awaiting their vehicles.
In the Channel 5 documentary 'Lip-Reading the Royals', lip reader Nicola Hickling claims Andrew told William: 'I've learnt from what I've done but before I forget, and if I can, I'd like to ask you if you can forgive?' Body language expert Adrienne Carter said the question left William 'extremely uncomfortable', adding: 'I think his body language is screaming, 'Get away from me, I don't want to be photographed, particularly engaging with you.''
After Andrew departed, Kate approached William on the steps of Westminster Cathedral and remarked: 'He seems very sorry.' William reportedly responded: 'Do you think I deserved that?' before asking 'Is that what you mean?' Kate then repeated her earlier observation. Royal commentator Christo Foufas emphasised that Andrew did not actually apologise, stating: 'He might have seemed sorry Princess Catherine but those words did not leave his mouth, he didn't actually say sorry did he.'
Andrew was stripped of his royal titles a month after the funeral amid scrutiny over his association with convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. He was also instructed to vacate his Royal Lodge residence. Subsequently, he was arrested on suspicion of misconduct in public office over allegations he disclosed sensitive information to Epstein, but has not faced charges and denies any wrongdoing.
This week, the US Department of Justice released new documents from the Epstein files, including low-resolution photos of a man resembling Andrew with a woman on his lap. The identities of the women were redacted. Meanwhile, Princess Eugenie stepped down as patron of Anti-Slavery International, with the charity thanking her for her support over seven years.
