Lewis Family Vows to Rebuild Trust with Tottenham Fans After Near Relegation
Lewis Family Pledges to Rebuild Trust at Tottenham

The Lewis family has issued a letter to Tottenham Hotspur supporters, pledging to rebuild trust and commit to meaningful change after the club narrowly avoided relegation from the Premier League. Spurs secured a 1-0 victory over Everton on the final day of the season, finishing 17th for the second consecutive year and escaping the drop by just two points.

A Season of Turmoil

Under head coach Roberto De Zerbi, Tottenham managed to stay up despite a chaotic campaign that saw three different head coaches and widespread fan protests. Supporters have directed anger at majority owners ENIC, run by the Lewis family, and chief executive Vinai Venkatesham. In September, long-serving chairman Daniel Levy was asked to step down after the Lewis family commissioned a comprehensive review of the club in early 2025. Levy had been the key decision-maker for almost 25 years.

The Lewis Family's Acknowledgment

In their letter, the Lewis family admitted they were "bitterly disappointed" with recent seasons and accepted ultimate responsibility for the club's plight. They stated: "Finishing 17th this and last season does not reflect the stature or potential of this football club. We are bitterly disappointed and share your frustration." They acknowledged that problems had been allowed to build over several years, eroding trust, and vowed to rebuild Spurs with a focus on football first.

Investment and Changes

The family emphasized they are not selling the club but are "all in" and investing in teams, the academy, and backroom functions. They promised that actions will speak louder than words. New performance director Dan Lewindon has launched a review into the medical side, and Rafi Moersen is set to join from City Football Group as director of football operations. CEO Venkatesham, despite a difficult first season, retains strong internal support and is surrounded by key figures.

Venkatesham told BBC Sport: "The club had some serious challenges that it needs to address on the football side. We know what those are. We are addressing them. We are fixing them."
