King Charles has expressed his shock and sadness following the death of a soldier from the King's Troop, Royal Horse Artillery at the Royal Windsor Horse Show. The soldier fell from their horse after exiting the arena on Friday evening, sustaining serious injuries and dying at the scene despite immediate medical treatment.
Thames Valley Police said the death is being treated as unexplained but non-suspicious. The King, who was present at the arena at the time, was not made aware of the severity of the incident until later. A Buckingham Palace spokesperson confirmed that Charles will contact the soldier's family to offer his personal condolences.
The Royal Windsor Horse Show is continuing as planned, but the King's Troop display has been omitted. Chief Superintendent Michael Loebenberg appealed for information, while an Army spokesperson expressed deep regret and confirmed the family has been notified. The Defence Accident Investigation Branch is working with police to establish the circumstances.
