A new Channel 5 documentary, Prince Harry in Therapy, has reignited discussion about the Duke of Sussex's estrangement from his brother, Prince William. The programme, which explores Harry's upbringing, his parents' divorce, his mother's death, and his marriage, suggests that the rift may be beyond repair.
The documentary highlights that Meghan Markle encouraged Harry to attend therapy, as did Prince William and Princess Kate. An archived clip shows Harry telling his brother how difficult it is to discuss their late mother, Princess Diana. The once-close bond between the brothers, which the public admired, has been fractured.
Royal expert Jennie Bond notes that William's concerns about Harry's relationship with Meghan Markle created a rift that has never healed. Harry's subsequent interviews and his memoir, Spare, which detailed a physical altercation with William, have further damaged relations.
Royal author Tom Quinn comments in the documentary: “He’s gained strength and resilience, but he’s lost his family. In some ways, the whole of his life will be torture.” The documentary concludes that reconciliation seems unlikely, as the damage has been done primarily by Harry's actions.
