King Charles has expressed his “profound concern” over allegations concerning Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor and has said he will “stand ready to support” the police if approached, Buckingham Palace has stated.
Thames Valley Police confirmed on Monday they were assessing claims that Mountbatten-Windsor shared confidential reports from his role as a government trade envoy with convicted child sex offender Jeffrey Epstein in 2010. The allegations stem from emails released by the US Department of Justice.
A Buckingham Palace spokesperson said the King has made clear his “profound concern” at the continuing allegations, adding that the specific claims are “for Mr Mountbatten-Windsor to address”. The palace said it would support Thames Valley Police if contacted.
The emails suggest that in October 2010, Mountbatten-Windsor sent Epstein details of his official upcoming trips to Singapore, Vietnam, China and Hong Kong, and later forwarded official reports of those visits. It remains unclear whether the documents contained market-sensitive information or if he had signed the Official Secrets Act.
Separately, William and Catherine, the Prince and Princess of Wales, have been described as “deeply concerned” by the revelations, with a Kensington Palace spokesperson stating their thoughts remain with the victims.
