Jimmy Kimmel has compared Donald Trump accepting the Nobel Peace Prize medal from its actual winner to a baby being given a pacifier. The late-night host's monologue on Thursday targeted Trump for taking the accolade from Venezuelan opposition leader María Machado, the 2025 winner.
Machado handed the medal to Trump after weeks of praising his interventions in her country. However, Trump later passed over Machado when naming Nicolas Maduro's successor, reportedly furious at not winning the award himself. Kimmel quipped, 'Rarely does a president yank a Nobel prize off of someone’s neck. He’s back in the Oval Office sucking on it like a pacifier.'
Kimmel also noted that Machado left the White House with a gift bag containing a 'Make America Great Again' mug. In his monologue, Kimmel offered Trump his own trophies, including a 1999 Emmy and a 2015 Soul Train Award, in exchange for pulling ICE out of Minneapolis. This follows the killing of Renee Good by an ICE agent, which sparked protests.
Kimmel also criticised Trump for suggesting the US does not need midterm elections, warning of a 'master plan' involving deploying ICE to cities and invoking the Insurrection Act to cancel elections.
