Jane Fonda has shared a heartfelt Instagram tribute to her ex-husband Ted Turner, who died at the age of 87. In the lengthy post, the actress described Turner as a 'gloriously handsome, deeply romantic, swashbuckling pirate' who transformed her life.
Fonda, 88, wrote that Turner was the most competitive person she ever met, alongside Katharine Hepburn. She recalled how he taught her about nature, business and strategy, and credited him with helping her believe in herself. 'He swept into my life... and I've never been the same,' she said.
The couple were married from 1991 to 2001 but remained close friends. Speaking at the TCM Classic Film Festival last week, Fonda praised Turner for creating Turner Classic Movies, calling it 'one of the great things he did.' She said the channel helps people understand the past and learn from classic films.
Fonda concluded her tribute by imagining Turner in heaven, surrounded by the wildlife he helped save. 'I loved Ted with all my heart,' she wrote. Turner is survived by his five children, whom Fonda described as 'talented, complex kids' she was privileged to be stepmother to.
