Jamie Laing has come under fire after sharing a video of his wife, Sophie Habboo, holding their infant son in the back of a car without wearing a seatbelt. The 37-year-old Made in Chelsea star posted a montage celebrating six months since the birth of their son, Ziggy, but quickly re-edited the tribute after facing criticism from fans.
Car Seat Safety Concerns
In the UK, children under 12 or under 135 cm tall must be secured in an approved car seat with an internal harness. However, taxis are exempt from this rule if the driver does not provide a suitable seat, allowing children to travel on a rear seat without one. Despite this, many viewers expressed outrage over the footage, which showed Sophie cradling Ziggy without a seatbelt.
One fan commented: "Nice to see you have removed the irresponsible clip with Sophie holding the baby in the car, without a carseat or even her seatbelt on. It would be wise to address the elephant in the room and maybe admit you have been irresponsible." Another added: "I'm hoping it made you realise how utterly irresponsible you have been. Your baby has no voice to question you when you travel without a baby seat OR a seatbelt."
Parenting in the Public Eye
Jamie and Sophie, who met on the reality show Made in Chelsea, are determined to shield their son from the spotlight despite being public figures. Sophie previously admitted she "really toyed" with how much of their child to share online and said they are "still working it out."
The couple is currently filming a new Disney reality show, Raising Chelsea, which promises a "no-holds-barred whirlwind journey of the next chapter." However, insiders have revealed that the pressure of filming has taken a toll on the pair, particularly Sophie, who has been forced to be camera-ready so soon after giving birth. A source told The Sun: "Sophie and Jamie actually had a really difficult time filming. They didn’t really expect it to be as much pressure as it was."
Despite the challenges, the couple is said to be pleased with the final outcome of the show. The Mirror has reached out to Jamie's representatives for comment on the car seat incident.
