Former rugby international James Haskell has confessed "I probably didn't support her enough" while reflecting on the end of his marriage to Chloe Madeley. The ex-England international and the fitness instructor turned reality television personality married in 2018 and had their daughter Bodhi, now nearly four, in 2022. However, they confirmed their amicable split just over 12 months afterwards.
Co-Parenting and Friendship
The former couple are dedicated to co-parenting their daughter and maintaining their friendship. Chloe has described their marriage's final year as challenging and claims they are now "happier and closer" and frequently enjoy family time together. James, 41, is re-entering the dating scene on Celebs Go Dating, with the complete backing of his former wife, 38, who assisted him in making the ultimate choice.
James's Reflection on the Split
According to reports, James acknowledges he could have contributed more during their marriage. He believes his post-rugby career as a DJ, which has seen him travel from Dubai to Ibiza, played a role in their difficulties. He said: "I had a lot of DJ gigs away. For the first time that part of my career was going well. I would stay out an extra night and wouldn't come home, and I probably didn't support her enough. I didn't get that stuff right."
Chloe's Support for James's Dating Journey
Meanwhile, Chloe has reportedly shared that she is "determined" to help her former husband James find a new partner. A source told new: "Chloe wants him to find a new woman and encouraged him to take part in Celebs Go Dating. She's been there for him - because if he's working, it helps the family. She wants him to do really well on the show." Their separation after nearly 10 years together came as somewhat of a surprise, particularly as it was revealed shortly after they featured on their own ITV reality series, Chloe Madeley: A Family Affair.
Encouragement to Join the Show
James also acknowledged that Chloe - daughter of television presenters Richard Madeley and Judy Finnigan - had a hand in persuading him to join the programme. He said: "I was on the fence, and she encouraged me to go for it. She's a good friend and my co-parent, and we're very transparent with each other. I feel lucky to have that support, it makes everything feel collaborative, and it's a relationship I truly value." James revealed that despite a challenging period leading up to their separation, he now regards his former wife as a "good friend". He continued: "We're very transparent with each other. I feel lucky to have that kind of trust and support - it makes everything feel collaborative, and it's a relationship I truly value."
