ITV's 1% Club Final Question Sparks Viewer Debate – Can You Solve It?
ITV's 1% Club Final Question Sparks Viewer Debate

ITV's The 1% Club has once again sparked debate among viewers after a baffling final question left five contestants without a correct answer. The quiz show, hosted by comedian Lee Mack, features 100 contestants who are gradually eliminated over 15 increasingly difficult questions. The final question is designed to be answerable by only 1% of the population.

The Stumping Question

In a recent repeated episode, the five finalists faced this challenge: "What new word links the capitalised words below? My SON TED ate raw FOOD and got SICK, then went to BED with me by his SIDE." The contestants offered guesses such as "you", "step", and "nest", but none were correct. Lee Mack revealed the answer as "sea", explaining that it can be inserted before each capitalised word to form a new word: season, seated, seafood, seasick, seabed, and seaside.

Viewer Reactions

The question divided viewers on social media. Some claimed they solved it instantly: "Got it straight away for once haha," one wrote. Another joked, "I'm all at SEA trying to get this one." However, others criticised the phrasing. One viewer fumed: "This is a dumb one. The sentence read as a whole doesn't hold any clue as to what the answer may be and ends up being misleading. 'Sea' is completely unrelated." Another echoed: "This is one of those questions which is more about people who watch the show than are '1%'. The question itself makes 0 sense and even seeing the answer it still makes no sense."

Prize Fund Unclaimed

As a result of the finalists failing to answer correctly, the £97,000 prize fund from the episode, which first aired in May 2025, went unclaimed. The show's format often leaves viewers playing along at home, and this particular question proved especially polarising.

Future of The 1% Club

ITV has confirmed that The 1% Club will continue for another three years, with more specials, rollovers, and Lee Mack returning as host. Mack commented: "I'm delighted that ITV have given us three more series to discover Great British clever clogs." ITV's Director of Factual Entertainment, Sue Murphy, added: "We're thrilled to be renewing The 1% Club for a further three years. The show has become a huge hit with viewers of all ages."

The 1% Club is available to watch on ITVX.
