Isle of Man TT rider Daniel Ingham tragically died following a crash during a qualifying session for this year's races, organisers confirmed on Thursday. Ingham, 33, was involved in a fatal collision at Doran's Bend on the first lap of the third qualifying session, having previously won the 2024 Senior Manx Grand Prix and making his debut at the renowned TT races.
Context of the Incident
The announcement of his death came after officials had already suspended all sidecar racing for the remainder of the event, citing safety concerns in the wake of several other serious incidents. These prior incidents included brothers Ryan and Callum Crowe crashing their sidecar, sustaining non-life-threatening injuries, and Maria Costello and passenger Shaun Parker also crashing, with Costello transferred to Aintree Hospital in a serious but stable condition.
Organisers' Response
Organisers stated that the decision to halt sidecar events was not taken lightly, but the safety of competitors, spectators, marshals, and officials remained their utmost priority. Ingham's death marks the 271st fatality since the event's inception in 1911.
