Hunter Biden Mocks Trump Over Iran War in Nobel Nomination

Hunter Biden, son of former US President Joe Biden, has mocked Donald Trump by announcing an "official" nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize, claiming Trump has ended the war in Iran "at least 38 times."

Mockery on Social Media

Taking to X (formerly Twitter), Hunter Biden wrote: "I am officially nominating Donald J. Trump for the Nobel Peace Prize. No President in History has ended the same war so many times." He added that Trump had ended the war with Iran at least 38 times by CNN's count and was "nowhere near finished ending it."

This comes after the US and Iran agreed to an interim deal earlier this month, requiring Tehran to dilute its stockpile of enriched uranium. However, talks have been intense following a weekend of crossfire in the Persian Gulf over efforts to reopen the Strait of Hormuz to shipping traffic.

Ongoing Negotiations

Despite reports of "positive progress" in talks, Hunter's post highlighted the repeated claims of ending the war. The indirect talks continue, with the Strait of Hormuz remaining a flashpoint in the fragile interim ceasefire. The recent exchange of fire followed an attack on a cargo ship.

Trump has claimed that the number of ships using the channel is "setting records," but maritime monitoring indicates vessel numbers remain well below pre-conflict levels due to ongoing security concerns.

Key Demands and Deal Details

Ending Tehran's stranglehold on the sea route, which disrupted global oil and gas supplies and drove up fuel and food prices, was a key demand in negotiations. The initial deal, known as the Islamabad memorandum of understanding, secures safe, toll-free passage of the strait for 60 days, pending a final agreement on Tehran's disputed nuclear plans.

The pact also leaves it to Iran and Oman, in conjunction with other Gulf states, to "define the future administration and maritime services in the Strait of Hormuz."
