The winning goal came in the 92nd minute when substitute Yu Hirakawa crossed from the left, and Middlesbrough goalkeeper Sol Brynn spilled the ball at the feet of McBurnie, who prodded home the most lucrative goal in Hull's history. The free-transfer signing's strike was worth an estimated £200 million in Premier League revenues.
For Middlesbrough, the defeat was a second devastating blow in a week, following their reinstatement to the play-offs after a points deduction appeal.
