Romelu Lukaku has revealed that Thierry Henry embarrassed a Belgium teammate so much during a training session that the player left the pitch. The Inter Milan striker recounted the incident during an Instagram Live conversation with Henry, who served as an assistant coach for Belgium from 2016 to 2018.
Lukaku said Henry, a former Arsenal and France star, still showed his class long after retirement. He recalled how Henry’s skills in training left one unnamed player so humiliated that he hastily departed the session. Lukaku’s younger brother Jordan, also a Belgium international, witnessed the moment and told Lukaku: “Rom! I’ve seen some s**t today! Damn!”
Henry, now manager of MLS side Montreal Impact, laughed off the story and said he “felt good in Belgium.” He was brought in by then-coach Roberto Martinez and helped the team finish third at the 2018 World Cup in Russia. The pair’s chat took place on Puma’s Instagram page amid the coronavirus pandemic.
