Hearts Question 'Premature Ending' of Title Decider After Celtic Pitch Invasion
Hearts Question 'Premature Ending' of Title Decider

Hearts have expressed concerns over what they describe as a "premature ending" to the Scottish Premiership title decider against Celtic, following a pitch invasion at Celtic Park. The match, which saw Celtic secure a 3-1 victory, was halted after home supporters entered the pitch in celebration of Callum Osmand's stoppage-time goal.

Hearts' Official Statement

In a statement released on Wednesday, Hearts confirmed they have written to the Scottish Football Association (SFA) and the Scottish Professional Football League (SPFL) seeking clarity on the events. The club highlighted that the match ended not by the referee's whistle but due to the actions of the crowd, setting what they called a "troubling precedent."

"The incursion of spectators onto the field of play must never be condoned under any circumstances," the statement read. "We have asked the authorities for a prompt response to the points we have raised."

Investigations and Reactions

The SPFL has since confirmed that the match had officially concluded before the pitch invasion. Hearts, who finished as runners-up, continue to assist Police Scotland with their investigations into the incident. The club also condemned "highly irresponsible comments" made publicly this week that appeared to defend those who entered the pitch.

Hearts had aimed to become the first club since Aberdeen in 1985 to break the Old Firm's dominance, but Celtic's victory secured their 14th title in the last 15 seasons, with only Rangers interrupting their run in 2021.
