Prince Harry Accused of Overshadowing William and Kate with Podcast Timing

Prince Harry has been accused of overshadowing the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge after his podcast interview coincided with a royal engagement for Mental Health Awareness Week. The Duke of Sussex appeared on Dax Shepard's Armchair Expert podcast, where he discussed his upbringing and criticised his father, Prince Charles. The 90-minute episode was released on the same day that Prince William and Kate Middleton visited the Way Youth Zone in Wolverhampton to mark the event.

Palace insiders expressed disappointment that Harry's comments 'usurped' the Cambridges' visit, reducing media coverage of their engagement. A royal source told The Times: 'It was such a lovely day for the Cambridges. It is a shame that it got usurped by what Harry had to say. Nobody is shocked any more. It is more: Here we go again.' The source added that grievances should be aired in private.

During the podcast, Harry said he had to go through 'genetic pain and suffering' before quitting as a senior royal and moving to Los Angeles. He stated he wanted to break the cycle of 'pain and suffering' for his son, Archie. The comments were seen as a dig at Prince Charles and also appeared to criticise the Queen and Prince Philip's parenting skills.

This is not the first time Harry has been accused of upstaging other royals. In March, it was revealed he had a job at a Silicon Valley firm on Princess Eugenie's birthday. In October 2018, he and Meghan reportedly announced their pregnancy at Eugenie's wedding. This year, their Oprah Winfrey interview aired on Commonwealth Day, when the Queen addressed the nation.
