British passengers and crew from the MV Hondius, a cruise ship hit by a hantavirus outbreak, will all be brought to isolate in Merseyside upon their return to the UK, it has been confirmed.
Outbreak Details
Three people have died following the outbreak of hantavirus on the vessel, with two of those confirmed to have had the disease, which is typically found in wild rodents. Another four individuals are confirmed to have contracted the virus and are receiving treatment, alongside one other probable case.
Repatriation Plans
The British government is currently organising the repatriation of UK nationals from the ship, which is expected to dock in the Canary Islands this weekend. The remaining Britons will then be flown home on a charter flight shortly thereafter.
According to the Liverpool Echo, those returning will be transferred to accommodation at the site of Arrowe Park Hospital in Wirral, Merseyside, where they will undergo a period of isolation.
This is a developing story. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
