Green Councillor Flashes Lamborghini Days After Election Win
Green Councillor Flashes Lamborghini After Win

A Green Party councillor has sparked outrage by posting footage of himself driving a Lamborghini supercar just days after winning a local election, despite his party's well-documented 'war on motorists'. Mohammad Baghdadi Khan, known as Baggy Khan, uploaded a TikTok video showing him at the wheel of a Lamborghini Huracán Spyder, a vehicle that can cost up to £270,000, alongside clips of his election victory in the Halliwell ward of Bolton, Greater Manchester.

The footage of the gas-guzzling supercar appears to have been taken during a wedding in 2023, where a fleet of luxury cars ferried guests to the venue. In another video, Khan also showed himself driving his regular car, a Mercedes with personalised number plates, which he used while campaigning. He boasted that if elected, he would be 'standing up for the people, the community, fighting for what's right'. His campaign pledges included working for 'greener spaces' and supporting taxes for 'billionaires not workers'.

Many social media users branded his decision to flaunt the cars an 'absolute joke' and 'hypocrisy', given the Green Party's motoring policies. One TikTok user commented: 'Absolute joke a local councillor driving a car like that.' In response, Councillor Baggy Khan, 25, said: 'Who said councillors can't drive cars like this?'

The Green Party has faced criticism for proposing to slash speed limits on motorways and dual carriageways by 15mph and extend 20mph zones in built-up areas. They also plan to 'incrementally' raise taxes on driving and 'steadily reduce' parking spaces to push cars off the roads. Conservatives accused Green leader Zack Polanski of pursuing a 'war on drivers', claiming he wants to 'make driving slower, more expensive and, in many cases, impossible'. However, the Greens defended their policies, arguing that 'evidence-based measures' would reduce road traffic accidents and save drivers money on fuel.

The official Green Party transport policy states: 'On major roads outside of built up areas, the maximum speed limit allowed would be 55mph, to maximise the efficiency of fuel use as well as improving safety.' The party also aims to pursue 'demand management' to reduce 'speeds and volume of motorised traffic'. Shadow transport secretary Richard Holden accused Mr Polanski of being 'out of touch' and said the plans would be a 'Green light for madness', adding: 'This will drive up costs for working families and bring the country to a standstill.' The Greens were approached for comment but did not respond.
