Morgan Gibbs-White has taken to social media to share a graphic image of his battle scar after Nottingham Forest's impressive 3-1 victory over Chelsea at Stamford Bridge. The midfielder posted a photo of stitches on his forehead, thanking fans for their support.
Injury Update
The 26-year-old wrote on Instagram: "Thanks for the messages of support, what a win, well done Taiwo Awoniyi." The injury leaves him a doubt for Thursday's Europa League semi-final second leg against Aston Villa, with Forest holding a 1-0 advantage from the first leg.
Forest manager Vitor Pereira provided an update: "Gibbs-White has a deep cut but he is a fighter and has a strong mentality. I hope our medical department can do magic to put him in condition. He is speaking normally, he remembers everything. The only thing is the pain."
Gibbs-White was forced off just 20 minutes after coming off the bench. Earlier, defender Zach Abbott had also been substituted following a concussion protocol after a head collision. Pereira confirmed Abbott is OK.
Match Summary
Forest moved six points clear of the relegation zone with the win, extending their unbeaten run to 10 matches across all competitions. Taiwo Awoniyi scored twice, with an Igor Jesus penalty in between, to seal the three points.
Pereira made eight changes to his starting XI, resting key players for the Villa clash. He said: "I know my players well. I tried to balance the energy of the team. I can change them but I cannot change the spirit. They are playing with confidence, unity and organisation."
