Gladiators star Giant has revealed the 'real reason' behind his departure from the BBC show, claiming he was given an ultimatum to split with his girlfriend or lose his role. The former professional bodybuilder and firefighter, whose real name is Jamie Bigg, said he was told his contract would not be renewed after he refused to end his relationship with Taylor Ryan, who runs an OnlyFans account.
In an interview with The Sun, Giant explained that during a video meeting earlier this month with the BBC, producer Hungry Bear and MGM—which owns the format and branding—he was informed there would be a decision about his participation in the next series. He later learned his contract was not being renewed, leaving him 'blown away'. 'I had to choose between dating Taylor and keeping my job,' he said. 'I was shocked and very saddened about their choice to sack me.'
Giant had previously announced his exit on Instagram, stating that 'this wasn't a decision I made to step away' and that he 'was faced with a choice that didn't align with my values'. He wrote: 'Being a Gladiator has been one of the greatest honours of my life... I stand by my people and I stand by what I believe in.'
A spokesperson for Gladiators said: 'After three formidable series, Giant is leaving Gladiators. We'd like to thank him for everything he has contributed to the show and wish him well for the future.' Giant appeared on the first three series of the rebooted programme, which revived the 1990s hit.
