Gladiators star Giant has opened up about the 'real reason' behind his departure from the BBC show. The television personality, whose real name is Jamie Bigg, announced on Instagram that he would not return for the fourth series, stating that 'this wasn't a decision I made to step away' and that he 'was faced with a choice that didn't align with my values.'
Ultimatum Over Relationship
Giant has now told The Sun that the issue revolved around his girlfriend Taylor Ryan, who is active on the adult site OnlyFans. He claimed he was given an ultimatum: either split with Taylor or lose his role on Gladiators. 'I had to choose between dating Taylor and keeping my job,' he said. 'I was shocked and very saddened about their choice to sack me.'
Meeting with Producers
The star revealed that earlier this month he participated in a video meeting with the BBC, producer Hungry Bear, and MGM, which owns the format and branding. He was informed that there would be a decision regarding his appearance on the next season. Later, he was told his contract would not be renewed, leaving him 'blown away.' The BBC and Hungry Bear have been approached for comment.
Career on Gladiators
Giant, a former professional bodybuilder and firefighter, appeared on the first three series of Gladiators, a reboot of the 1990s hit show. Announcing his exit on Instagram, he wrote: 'To my Gladiator family. I want to tell you all that I won't be coming back for season 4 of the TV show. Being a Gladiator has been one of the greatest honours of my life. Stepping into that arena, hearing the crowd, representing strength, resilience and being a role model… that's something I'll carry with me forever.'
He added: 'What I do want to make clear is this wasn't a decision I made to step away. I was faced with a choice that didn't align with my values. And if you know me, you know this… I stand by my people and I stand by what I believe in. That's what being a role model means to me. I'm proud of everything I gave to the show and grateful for every single person who supported me along the way.'
Giant concluded: 'This isn't the end. It's just the beginning. Stay strong. Stand tall.' Gladiators airs on the BBC.
