Ghislaine Maxwell, serving a 20-year sentence for her role in Jeffrey Epstein’s sex-trafficking ring, has reportedly received unusual privileges at a low-security prison in Texas, prompting allegations of favourable treatment.
According to a letter from US Representative Jamie Raskin, Maxwell was given custom meals, unlimited toilet paper, and access to a puppy. The letter also claimed she was working on a commutation application with the Trump administration, though her team has denied seeking clemency.
Legal experts have described the alleged treatment as uncommon. Former prosecutor Eric Faddis suggested it could indicate Maxwell provided valuable information to the government. Neama Rahmani, another former prosecutor, noted that sex offenders are typically isolated for safety reasons.
The controversy comes amid renewed scrutiny of Trump’s ties to Epstein, including a released email where Epstein referred to Trump as “the dog that hasn’t barked”. Maxwell’s treatment has fuelled speculation about a potential pardon, though the White House has denied considering it.
