Ghislaine Maxwell, the longtime associate of convicted sex offender Jeffrey Epstein, has met with US justice department officials in secret talks, her lawyer confirmed. The meeting took place on Thursday at the office of the US attorney in Tallahassee, Florida, with Deputy Attorney General Todd Blanche present.
Maxwell, who is serving a 20-year sentence for sex trafficking and other crimes, answered all questions posed by officials, according to her attorney David Markus. “Miss Maxwell answered every single question. She never stopped. She never invoked a privilege. She never declined to answer,” Markus said, adding that another meeting is scheduled for Friday.
The talks come amid growing political pressure on the Trump administration to release more details about the Epstein investigation. Mark Epstein, the brother of Jeffrey Epstein, said he would ask Maxwell what she and Jeffrey might have known about Donald Trump, claiming Epstein once said he “had dirt on Trump”.
Maxwell’s brother Ian Maxwell told the New York Post that his sister had prepared “new evidence” that was not available at her 2021 trial, which he said would have had a “significant impact” on the outcome.
The justice department announced earlier this month that it would not release any more documents from the Epstein investigation, despite earlier pledges by President Trump and Attorney General Pam Bondi. The decision has drawn criticism from both sides of the political aisle, with some accusing the administration of a cover-up.
