A Georgia superior court judge was arrested early Tuesday morning on suspicion of driving under the influence after a minor collision in the car park of a strip club in Jacksonville, Florida.
Superior Court Judge Robert 'Bert' Guy Jr., who serves as president of Georgia’s Council of Superior Court Judges, allegedly struck a Ford F-150 while reversing his Mercedes-Benz in the lot of Wacko’s Gentlemen’s Club around 3 a.m., according to a Florida arrest report.
Witnesses said Guy briefly spoke with the truck driver before attempting to leave, but appeared 'highly intoxicated' and was unable to drive away. A valet and another patron helped him park, after which he returned inside the club and handed over his keys and phone to staff.
Police noted Guy smelled strongly of alcohol, was confused, and slurred his speech. He claimed he did not have his keys and could not recall if he was driving at the time of the crash. He also offered the truck driver $500 to settle the matter without police involvement and refused to provide identification.
Guy was arrested and charged with DUI and DUI-property damage. He later refused a breathalyzer test, leading to an additional charge. He was released on a $3,000 bond and self-reported the arrest to Georgia’s Judicial Qualifications Commission, which has launched an investigation.
Guy, first elected as a Superior Court judge in 2016, presides over cases in the five-county Brunswick Judicial Circuit. He has retained a Florida attorney to handle the proceedings.
