Gemma Atkinson opens up about tense moment with Gorka before his Strictly exit

Gemma Atkinson has spoken candidly about her relationship with husband Gorka Marquez, weeks before he announced his departure from Strictly Come Dancing. The dancer, 35, revealed on Tuesday that he is leaving the BBC show after a decade.

In a resurfaced clip from their podcast Lost in Translation, Atkinson, 41, described an argument over a shelf after Marquez returned from a trip to New York. She recalled how he inspected the house "like an inspector doing a check on a tenant" and complained that his shelf had been moved.

The actress admitted she had muttered "shut the f*** up Gorka" under her breath as she went upstairs, before realising their children, Mia, six, and Thiago, two, had been playing shops and had not tidied up. She said she then understood his frustration.

Marquez, who appeared on the show with Atkinson in 2017, announced his exit with an Instagram post, saying scheduling conflicts between Strictly and Dancing With The Stars Spain led to his decision. He expressed gratitude to the BBC. Atkinson responded with a love heart and wrote: "Thank goodness you were on the show in 2017! Exciting times ahead."

Marquez joined Strictly in 2016 and has been partnered with the likes of Alexandra Burke and Helen Skelton. He did not have a partner last year due to his commitments in Spain.
