Bruno Fernandes Accuses Roy Keane of Lying About Assists Record Remarks
Fernandes: Keane Lied About My Assists Comments

Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes has publicly accused former teammate Roy Keane of telling a deliberate falsehood regarding his pursuit of the Premier League assists record. Fernandes, who recently secured the outright record for assists in a single season with 21, responded to Keane's criticism that he had prioritised personal glory over the team's interests.

Keane's Criticism

Speaking on The Overlap podcast, Keane suggested Fernandes was fixated on individual accolades, describing his mindset as part of a "circus act". Keane referenced an interview in which Fernandes allegedly said he made passes when he should have shot, implying the captain was chasing assists rather than doing what was best for the team.

Fernandes's Response

In an interview on The Diary of a CEO podcast, Fernandes refuted Keane's claims. "What I don't like is when people lie about things," Fernandes stated. "Either he saw some other interview or he can't say that I said one thing that I've just not said. Luckily for me, everything is on record." Fernandes emphasised that he accepts criticism but draws the line at having words put in his mouth.

Fernandes's actual post-match comments after the Nottingham Forest game were: "There were probably moments today when I should have passed instead of shot. I'm very happy for the assist, but more than that, I'm happy for the win and to finish the season on a high."

Social Media Escalation

Keane appeared to escalate the feud by posting on Instagram: "Too much attention makes a donkey think he's a lion." Fernandes revealed he had contacted former United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær to obtain Keane's phone number in an attempt to resolve the matter directly. "I think I've always showed a lot of respect for Roy Keane," Fernandes said. "What I don't like is that people make their own words on what I say and it's not true."

The dispute highlights the ongoing tension between current and former Manchester United captains, with Fernandes defending his commitment to the team while rejecting what he views as fabricated criticism.
