Sarah Ferguson faces an increasingly uncertain future as she prepares to leave Royal Lodge, with new details emerging about her history of lavish and reckless spending. The former duchess, who has admitted to being "terrible with money," reportedly spent £65,000 a year on a personal trainer she used only twice annually, according to a new biography.
Author Andrew Lownie's book, Entitled: The Rise and Fall of the House of York, alleges that Ferguson's extravagant lifestyle extended beyond trainers. Personal hairdressers and Pilates instructors were reportedly paid hundreds of pounds an hour to wait for her to emerge late in the afternoon, while her butler allegedly had to arrive at 4:30am to put watercress on ice.
The biography also claims that Ferguson would demand lavish meals, including a whole side of beef, a leg of lamb, and a chicken, laid out like a medieval banquet. A former royal staffer said that most of the food was wasted, with no attempt to keep leftovers for the next day.
Ferguson's financial troubles have been well-documented, including unpaid bills that led to a newsagent refusing to supply her, and a BP petrol card that was reportedly confiscated over arrears. She also amassed a £6,500 bill using the late Queen's mail service for gifts and letters, and previously borrowed at least £15,000 from disgraced financier Jeffrey Epstein.
Despite earning money through Weight Watchers campaigns, QVC appearances, and writing novels, Ferguson's net worth is reportedly just £745,000, leaving her struggling to afford even a modest home in Windsor as she faces eviction.
