The trial of former St Helens North MP Conor McGinn, accused of sexually assaulting a woman while drunk, has been postponed. McGinn, 41, allegedly groped the woman's breasts and crotch area after a night out in July 2022, Westminster Magistrates' Court previously heard.
Deputy Chief Magistrate Tan Ikram set a new trial date of December 14 for a three-day hearing at the same court. The judge noted that the previous November date had been arranged without checking his availability.
McGinn pleaded not guilty to the sexual assault charge at an earlier hearing. He was elected as the Labour MP for St Helens North in 2015 and served as an opposition whip and deputy national campaign co-ordinator before announcing in 2023 he would stand down at the next election.
McGinn, of Lambeth, south London, was suspended by the Labour Party in 2022 following the allegation.
