A National Lottery jackpot worth £10.6 million has gone unclaimed in Bexley, south-east London, after the ticket holder failed to come forward within the 180-day claim period. The deadline passed last Thursday, leaving the mystery winner empty-handed.
The winning Lotto ticket was purchased in Bexley on 4 October last year. Despite an extensive search by Allwyn, the lottery operator, no valid claim was made. The jackpot will now be donated to good causes supported by the National Lottery.
Andy Carter, senior winners' adviser at Allwyn, said: 'Despite an extensive search for the mystery Bexley millionaire, I can confirm that the ticket-holder did not come forward to claim their Lotto prize and has now unfortunately missed out on this life-changing sum of money.' He added that the funds would benefit projects in the Bexley area, such as the Exchange Erith and You and Me Happy Family Children's Disability Trust.
Allwyn noted that it is rare for such a large prize to go unclaimed, as most unclaimed prizes are smaller-tier ones. Currently, there are five major National Lottery prizes worth over £3.2 million that remain unclaimed, including three £1 million EuroMillions or Lotto tickets.
