Missing Minute of Epstein CCTV Footage Released, Contradicts Bondi's Claim

Newly released CCTV footage from outside Jeffrey Epstein's cell on the night of his death in August 2019 includes a previously missing minute, contradicting US Attorney General Pam Bondi's assertion that the footage had been recorded over. The video was among 33,000 pages of records released late Tuesday by the US House oversight committee, which has been investigating the disgraced financier's death.

The missing minute, from 11.59pm to midnight on 10 August, had fuelled conspiracy theories about Epstein's death. Bondi had claimed that the prison's CCTV system was routinely reset every 24 hours, resulting in a missing minute each night. However, CBS reported in July that a full version existed, and Tuesday's release confirmed this, showing nothing out of the ordinary—just guards working outside the cell.

Other previously unseen footage includes Epstein being escorted by guards to make a phone call. Most of the released files, posted on Google Drive, contain information already publicly known, including court documents related to Epstein and his former girlfriend Ghislaine Maxwell, who is reportedly seeking a pardon from the Trump administration.

The release comes as President Donald Trump faces renewed scrutiny over his ties to Epstein. A bipartisan group of lawmakers is demanding full transparency, with Congressman Thomas Massie and Ro Khanna filing a discharge petition to force the release of all Epstein files. House Speaker Mike Johnson has dismissed the effort as 'meaningless,' but Massie accused him of being afraid of Trump.

On Wednesday, Epstein's victims joined other sexual abuse survivors at a rally in Washington DC to demand justice, with some speaking publicly for the first time.
